District Mohmand is one of the newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, formerly part of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). With its headquarters located in Ghalanai, Mohmand is known for its rugged mountains, strong tribal heritage, and a resilient, education-seeking population.
The district comprises eight tehsils: Halimzai, Safi, Khwaizai, Baizai, Ambar, Ekka Ghund, and Prang Ghar. Among these, Safi Tehsil holds the highest population density and a significant number of out-of-school children, making it a top priority for educational reform.
Situated in the north-western region of Pakistan, Mohmand borders the districts of Bajaur, Khyber, and Peshawar. The district covers an area of approximately 2,296 square kilometers and has a predominantly rural population.
The people of Mohmand District are known for their hospitality, bravery, and adherence to traditions. The region is rich in tribal customs, poetry, and folklore. Traditional hujras, local sports, and religious gatherings are still central to social life.
Since the merger with KP, the district has witnessed steady progress in the field of education. The District Education Office (Male) plays a vital role in expanding access to education, improving infrastructure, and enrolling out-of-school children (OOSCs), especially in remote tehsils.
Despite logistical and financial challenges, efforts are ongoing to ensure every child receives quality education in a safe and inclusive environment.
